State marks Native American Day

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2001 In South Dakota, Monday was Native American Day, first designated in 1990 by the late Gov. George S. Mickelson at the end of the Year of Reconciliation. Whether reconciliation among races, as Mickelson sought, has truly occurred is open for question but the Multi-Cultural Center in Sioux Falls has been marking the occasion with a pow-wow. Dancers of all ages from throughout the region participated in the event. Get the Story:
