MARCH 2, 2001 In an editorial today, Lance Johnson, managing editor of The New London Day, says its time to get down to business and negotiate a solution to the conflicts between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and three Connecticut towns. Johnson says the insistence of town leaders to make the meeting public will only result in failure. He says the paper advocates freedom of information but on such a hotly contested issue, so long as the results are public, private meetings are the way to go. A March 12 date has been set for meetings between tribal leaders and the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston. But town leaders don't want Tom Tureen, a lawyer for the tribe, to attend the talks. Get the Story:
