MARCH 26, 2001 It was bound to happen sooner or later. Readers of The New London Day write in about yet another proposed tribal casino in Connecticut... I AM AN EXPERT ON INDIAN CULTURE:
"How does a casino, with all its associated games of chance, square with generation after generation of Indian custom? How does this keep the Indian way of life? There is something terribly wrong with this picture. . ."

LETTER: Feathers and dice don't mix (Arthur V. Pintauro. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/25) UNDER THE BOARDWALK, WE'LL BE HAVING FUN:
"Before deciding on this issue, everyone, especially our city councilors, should take a trip to Atlantic City and then walk through the neighborhoods directly surrounding the casinos there. They are blighted and boarded up and not particularly safe to walk through. . ."
Get the Story:
LETTER: Downtown casino bad idea (Wayne W. Miller. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/24) THANKS BUT NO THANKS:
"Let's say, “No, thanks,” to the Eastern Pequots' generous offer and suggest they find another community more willing to hitch their future to the gambling way of life . . ."
Get the Story:
LETTER: Don't gamble with city's future (Rob Scala. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/25) DOWN BY THE SEASIDE, ALL THE BOATS GO SAILING...
"New London is a seaport city. Let's build on that theme. I vote “no” to the casino. . ."
Get the Story:
LETTER: Back boats, not bets (Charles Mond. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/25) DO THE PEOPLE HEAR WHAT THE LITTLE FISH ARE SAYING?
"I believe the towns have the legal right to issue permits. Let's say that the towns imposed a daily permit of $2 per person; we could call it a gaming permit to satisfy the law. . ." Get the Story:
LETTER: Sell gaming permits to patrons (Daniel Tarasevich. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/25) PEOPLE TURN AWAY:
"We all know most new businesses fail. The Eastern Pequots will be going against two strong brands in Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Do we really want State Pier to be taken into trust permanently for an unproven business entity? "

LETTER: Stick with city's strength (Brad Wheeler. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/25)
