Whale hunt update
As members of the Parker family whaling team resumed their hunt today, a protester was injured. The protester attempted to interrupt the hunting team just as members of the team had thrown a harpoon at a grey whale. The harpoon did not stick in the whale and the whale was not killed.

Video appearing on the TV stations KIRO-TV and KING-TV showed the protester rush in on the Makah's canoe. A US Coast Guard boat overtook her personal watercraft.

A Coast Guard spokesperson said the woman displayed "gross negligent operation." The woman's jet ski posed a great danger to the the hunters in the canoe, he said.

The unidentified woman emerged from the water and was taken to a hospital for a shoulder injury.

The Coast Guard arrested a second protester and confiscated a second watercraft.

Protesters have ignored the 500-yard exclusion zone around the hunt. On the first day of the hunt, two protesters were arrested and had their boat confiscated.

Protesters have vowed to stop the hunt in any way they can.

Note: The woman has since been identified as Erin Abbott. The second arrested protester who had her jet ski confiscated is Erin O'Connell.
