Anti-whaling activists want to draw attention to their protests against the Makah whale hunt by adopting six gray whales in Neah Bay, Washington.

Members of the Peninsula Citizens for the Protection of Whales intend to place photos of the whales in a newspaper advertisement calling for the Makah and the federal government to protect them. They call the whales "residents" of Neah Bay.

The Makah are prohibited from hunting whales in the summer and in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where whales typically remain year round.
