EDITORIAL: Learn English Hispanics

MAY 10, 2001 In an editorial today, the controversial Boston Globe columnist who was once suspended after it was revealed he lifted other persons' work says President Bush should be encouraging Spanish-speaking Hispanics to learn English. Jeff Jacoby says Bush's weekly address in Spanish is indicative of a "deeply disquieting trend" of Hispanics allegedly not being concerned with "fitting in to American society." He says the Spanish address, and the Democratic response, only furthers the millions who live in "linguistic barrios" in the nation. Get the Story:
