MAY 5, 2000

Members of the Civil Rights Team at Scarborough High in Scarborough, Maine, held a Native Awareness Day on Thursday. One panel discussed the school's mascot--The Redskins. While most members of the panel supported removing the name, most of the members of the audience supported keeping it.

A Maine law banning the use of "squaw" in public place names was passed in April.
