Pueblo's symbol propels N.M. flag

JUNE 15, 2001 New Mexico has been rated as having the best flag in North America but the state won't be paying Zia Pueblo for using the tribe's traditional symbol. The state began using the tribe's "sun" symbol on its flag in 1925. The tribe has tried to get compensation for the use of the symbol but the state has refused. Southwest Airlines last year paid the tribe an undisclosed sum of money to use the symbol on one of its aircraft. Get the Story:
