Hawaiians to hold sovereignty protest
JUNE 7, 2000

Hoping to draw attention to their sovereignty efforts, Native Hawaiian activists will hold a protest at the Boston Harbor on July 4. Echoing the Boston Tea Party independence protest in 1773, the activists will drop leis made from Hawaiian ti leaves into the harbor. Aloha March 2000, a march for sovereignty, will be held August 11 and August 12 in Washington, DC. Organizer John Kekahu hopes to draw 20,000 to the event.
