JULY 6, 2000

The Crow Nation in Montana held a parade, feast, rodeo and powwow on Saturday July 1, inaugurating the newly elected tribal council.

Clifford Bird in Ground was elected chairman in May, ousting long time and controversial leader Clara Nomee. Voters also elected Vincent Goes Ahead Jr as Vice-Chairman, Tilton Old Bull, Sr as Secretary, and Larny Little Owl as Vice-Secretary.

Bird in Ground promised a slimmer and more accountable government. Goes Ahead said the tribe has great potential to become one of the wealthiest tribes.
