THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2001 By her own admission, Aline Champoux's choice of men leaves a lot to be desired. Champoux's first marriage was to Richard "Skip" Hayward, the man who took the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation from obscurity to the owners of a financially successful casino. According to Champoux, she was a battered wife throughout their seven-year marriage. Some of Champoux's stories of abuse are chronicled in "Without Reservation," a book by author Jeff Benedict which says the tribe is not descended from the historic Pequot tribe. Champoux told her story in order to help bring domestic violence "out of the Dark Ages," she tells The New London Day. Hayward has never commented publicly about Champoux's claims. Get the Story:
