SEPTEMBER 11, 2000 A debate between the Democratic candidates for Senator of Washington increasingly turned to incumbent Slade Gorton, a Republican, on various issues. Deborah Senn and Maria Cantwell participated in a debate on several issues, including dam breaching. Both said they do not support it, a position Gorton holds as well. Tribes in the state and the Northwest have called for the breaching of dams on the Snake River in order to help save salmon. Get the Story:
