Gorton targeted by candidates

SEPTEMBER 11, 2000

A debate between the Democratic candidates for Senator of Washington increasingly turned to incumbent Slade Gorton, a Republican, on various issues.

Deborah Senn and Maria Cantwell participated in a debate on several issues, including dam breaching. Both said they do not support it, a position Gorton holds as well.

Tribes in the state and the Northwest have called for the breaching of dams on the Snake River in order to help save salmon.
