SEPTEMBER 6, 2000 Wilma Mankiller, former Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, hosted a wedding for first-time bride and friend, feminist Gloria Steinem. Mankiller and her husband Charlie Soap hosted and conducted the early morning ceremony for Steinem and her husband David Bale. They were married at Mankiller's home in Adair County. Mankiller and Steinem are members of the National Women's Hall of Fame. Mankiller led the Cherokee Nation from 1985 to 1995. Get the Story:
