FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2001 In an editorial today, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader says prosecutors and law enforcement in South Dakota have "bungled" the racially-charged shooting incident involving white teenagers and the Crow Creek Tribe's girls basketball team. "The whole thing stinks to high heaven," writes the paper. The U.S. Attorney should consider getting involved, because it seems to be the only to "find out exactly what happened and get any justice." The paper cites numerous mistakes in the case, including police who let the teenagers drive away from the scene to possibly conceal evidence or change their stories. The paper also says law enforcement should have immediately known race played some factor because of "consistent" evidence. The paper notes that the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe has banned high school teams from Miller, where the incident occurred, from playing on the reservation. The tribe's team also won't be playing in Miller anymore. Get the Story:
