Editorial: Don't delay energy bill

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2001

In an editorial today, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader calls a decision by Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) to delay an energy bill is "unfortunate and disappointing."

The paper agrees with Republicans that energy issues are important and deserve to be heard soon. But the paper does not agree with the GOP view that drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is right for the nation.

The paper calls on the Senate to enact legislation with a focus on conservation.

A recent development could alter the paper's view on Daschle's delay. An energy bill with Arctic drilling provisions is set to get a vote on Monday.
