Poor Gale Norton. She gets criticized for wanting to increase drilling on federal lands but according to The New York Times, she can't even do that right.

The paper in an editorial criticizes Norton, or her "underlings," for approving drilling near the Arches National Park in Utah. The editorial cites a decision by an appeals board at the Department of Interior which said testing could cause "irreparable harm" to the area.

"Nobody expects the administration to retreat from its basic theology that aggressive exploration of the public domain is necessary," the paper writes. "Perhaps, though, as part of the larger debate over a national energy strategy, the Senate will force the administration to proceed with much greater care."
