NOVEMBER 17, 2000

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number (ICANN) on Thursday announced the addition of seven new Internet top-level domains (TLDs).

Top-level domains are the suffixes to Internet locations, such as .com. The new TLDs are: .biz - business, .info - information, .name - personal names, .pro - professionals, .museum - museums, .coop - business cooperatives, .aero - aerospace industry.

The new suffixes will be available by mid-2001. A proposal to have an indigenous TLD was not accepted by ICANN.
