Napster tries new approach

Having already lost a number of users, the California company Napster may see more flee its file service with a Monday announcement of new technology designed to weed out unathorized transfers of coyprighted music.

The company said it will begin using "digital fingerprint" technology to identify songs by their content. Users had been thwarting federal court orders against trading of copyrighted music by simply altering file names.
