Native venture pleas to Supreme Court

A wireless communications venture on Thursday filed a brief with the Supreme Court, urging the court to uphold licenses awarded to three Alaska Native companies and AT&T.

Alaska Native Wireless is owned by Sealaska Corp., Doyon Ltd., and Arctic Slope Regional Corp. Along with AT&T, they paid $2.9 million in an auction for wireless licenses.

But a federal appeals court last month said the sale was illegal. The Federal Comminications Commission wrongly took them from a bankrupt company, the court said.

The FCC has appealed to the Supreme Court.
