FBI faulted for lack of response

The FBI came under fire on Wednesday for not following up on information Democratic Senators said might have prevented the September 11 terrorist attacks.

But director Robert S. Mueller III said an investigation would have not uncovered the plot. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee said a recommendation that flight schools be investigated for suspicious Middle Eastern students should have raised red flags.
