The House Finance Committee of the Alaska Legislature on Tuesday approved a bill to give a lobbying group an additional $1 million to support drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The bill would give Arctic Power, a non-profit, a total of $3 million from this year's budget Also, $100,000 would be given to the Inupiat village of Kaktovik to produce a pro-ANWR video and to help deal with visitors to the area.

Environmentalists and others testified against giving more money to the drilling lobby in the face of budget shortfalls and post-September 11 tourism issues. The bill still has to be approved by the full Legislature.
