The Bush administration is endorsing an Indian scientist whose views on global warming appear more in line with the industry charged with causing climate change.

Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri has worked for the auto and oil companies and is supported by the energy industry lobbyists who met with the State Department yesterday, The New York Times reported. The Bush administration is endorsing him to head the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an international body working under the United Nations and the World Meteorological Organization.

The panel's current chief is Dr. Robert T. Watson, who has tied climate change to man-made causes such as oil and coal use. His term is expiring.
