ANWR amendment may be offered

Depending on who you ask, Republicans in the Senate are going to offer an amendment to an energy bill allowing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge or they are going to abandon the issue.

If an amendment is put on the table, Sens. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) and John Breaux (D-La.) will sponsor it, one report says. Other reports say Republicans are considering dropping the issue and reviving it when the Senate and House meet to finalize the energy package.

The House approved drilling last summer.
