A special White House task force is taking requests from the energy industry on ways use public lands for energy development.

Established a year ago with the release of President Bush's energy policy, the White House Task Force on Energy Project Streamlining has been mulling recommendations from oil and gas companies. The panel has met with some environmentalists.

According to The Washington Post, the task force is studying 55 projects. One request was to reduce bureaucratic hurdles to leasing on the Navajo Nation, the paper reported.
