An oil company owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz has dropped plans to drill in a site considered sacred to a number of tribes.

Anschutz Exploration Corp. won't try to explore for oil at Weatherman Draw in Montana. The company said a legal fight could have been costly and timely.

The area is known as Valley of the Chiefs. Tribes protested a Department of Interior decision to allow test wells to be drilled near historic rock art and other sacred sites.
