Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi is extending benefits to military personnel who developed radiation-related cancers after working on Amchitka Island in Alaska.

Principi is issuing new regulations, to become effective March 26, that will allow personnel to make claims. The rules assume a connection between working on the island, where nuclear testing took place, and 20 cancers.
