A very special benefit is being held April 20 to draw attention to domestic violence on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

"Violence against Oglala women is not Lakota tradition" is the slogan as actresses Jane Fonda and Tantoo Cardinal join playwright Eve Ensler for a performance of Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." The popular, feminist play was written as a response to domestic violence and has been performed by celebrities and other well known women across the globe.

This time, it will be used to raise money to build a shelter for battered women on the reservation. Cangleska Inc., a non-profit based on the reservation, has land for the shelter but lacks the funds.

The performance will take place at the Rapid City Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. The evening will be accompanied by a capella singing group Ulali, Cherokee artists Dana Tiger and a silent auction.
