A member of Jicarilla Apache Nation of New Mexico is charged with two counts of child abuse for allegedly leaving her 5-year-old-son alone in the middle of a busy interstate.

Cheryl Redwine was arrested April 29 by Jicarilla tribal police on an unrelated charge and then told the officers she killed her son. Isaac Talamante was found by motorists along I-25 near Albuquerque largely unharmed.

Redwine, 25, is currently at a mental-health clinic, where she is undergoing a 14-day evaluation, after which she will be brought in on the charges.
