THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 2002

An attorney defending a white man accused of murdering a Navajo woman is trying to suppress evidence of bias against Native American.

Michael Cox, a federal prosecutor, wants to introduce testimony which claims Robert Ray Fry told people he hated Indians. Defense attorney objected in court on Wednesday, saying "They just want to portray Mr. Fry as a mean redneck," as reported by The Farmington Daily-Times.

Betty Lee, a mother of five, was found stabbed and bludgeoned to death in June 2000 on the Navajo Reservation.

Fry also faces charges in the death of Donald Tsosie, another Navajo.
