THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 2002

A New Mexico man faces the death penalty if convicted of murdering a Navajo woman.

A jury is mulling the charges against Robert Ray Fry. Along with co-defendant Leslie Engh, he is accused of kidnapping, attempted rape and stabbing Betty Lee in June 2000.

If convicted of first-degree, Fry could face death. The jury has been given the option of a second-degree charge, which will does not raise capital punishment.
