A leading Minnesota state lawmaker who has fought to maintain tribal monopoly over gaming is expressing support for a state-run casino.

Majority Leader Roger Moe, DFL, says the casino would help tribes who haven't seen as many benefits from gaming as they would like. These are the Red Lake and White Earth Ojibwe bands, he said.

Red Lake Chairman Bobby Whitefeather says his tribe would contribute to development costs and get profits from the casino, which would be located in an urban area. But the state's other tribes, eager to protect their funds, have not warmed to the idea.
