Inter-tribal housing fund started

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2002 The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana are using a $5,000 donation from home financing company Fannie Mae to start up an inter-tribal mortgage-backing program. The Montana-Wyoming Lending Consortium would help tribal members on reservations in the two states obtain financing for homes. Tribal governments will contribute to a fund modeled after one the Salish and Kootenai Tribes set up about 20 years ago, now valued at $40 million. Get the Story:
