Kake Tribal Corp., an Alaska Native corporation, is emerging from bankruptcy.

The corporation fell into Chapter 11 after paying out claims on life insurance lawsuits made by shareholders. Based in Kake, the corporation has about 650 shareholders.

The corporation now has announced it will start paying off part of its debt. It owed $15.5 million when it declared bankruptcy in 1999.
