WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 2002

The New York Attorney General's office is raising questions about Internet kiosks the Oneida Nation has placed in convenience stores to sell cigarettes.

The machines allow customers at off-reservation locations to buy tax-free cigarettes from the tribe and thereby save up to $20 a carton. The state says this could possibly violate the law.

The state's new 39-cent increase on packs of cigarettes goes into effect today.
