MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2002 To experts in the gaming industry and those who live with it, the question of casinos is not whether they will impact a community but by how much. With six casinos approved in New York, that question is on many minds. Three are to be located in the Catskills region, which by press accounts is a picturesque, quaint Norman Rockwell treasure of Americana waiting to be jammed by traffic, workers, planes and environmental problems. There are several tribes and developers interested in the Catskills. The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and Park Place Entertainment, the largest gaming company in the world, are the only ones to have filed a land-into-trust application so far. Get the Story:
