Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma Chairman John A. "Rocky" Barrett Jr. is disputing the Census 2000 count and suggested California's numbers were cooked.

Oklahoma used to have the highest number of American Indians and Alaska Native but California can now claim that title. But Barrett says California made an effort to have as many people as possible declare Indian ancestry.

"The California government determined that it is to their benefit to have the most Indians in the census," he is quoted by The Shawnee News-Star as saying.
