TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2002

Testimony began on Monday in a trial challenging the political districts in Alaska.

Alaska Natives are part of the suit which challenges the map drawn by the Alaska Redistricting Board. Two members of the board testified, with one saying the map was drawn to ensure voting power of Natives was not diluted.

The Department of Justice signed off on the plan, saying it did not violate voting rights of Natives.
