Editorial: Praise on recognition push

In an editorial today, The Norwich Bulletin praises Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) for making Indian issues a top focus of his Congressional efforts.

The paper specifically focuses on Simmons push to have Congress hold a hearing on a federal recognition bill he drafted. Charging that there are no "specific" acknowledgment processes and that seven recognition criteria can be "waived," the paper says the bill will correct these problems and provide federal funds to non-Indians.

Other than recognition and the related issue of gaming, the paper offers no other evidence of its its belief that Simmons has made "Indian Affairs a priority."
