Paper blasts Navajo Nation
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2002

The Farmington Daily-Times slams the Navajo Nation today for failing to give Navajo Code Talker David Tsosie his Congressional silver medal.

The tribe says it will give Tsosie the medal when it conducts a ceremony for others. The paper says this is reprehensible, considering he had been "uninvited" to an event where he would have received his honor, and wonders why the tribe is even involved.

"This is bureaucracy at its worst," the paper writes. "How long is Tsosie supposed to wait while other Code Talkers are found or verified? It could take years before they are all identified."

"The bottom line here is Tsosie may never live to see his medal, thanks to some bureaucrat in Window Rock who let down this American hero who so many years ago put his life on the line," the editorial continues.
