Native venture seeks wireless refund

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2002 A joint venture of Alaska Native corporations is asking the Federal Communications Corporation to refund $550 million the company paid in a wireless license auction. Alaska Native Wireless, owned by Sealaska Corp., Doyon Ltd., Arctic Slope Regional Corp. and AT&T Wireless, purchased $2.9 billion for the licenses last year but an appeals court said they still belong to a bankrupt company called NextWave. A settlement that would have allowed the auction purchasers, including the Native venture, to keep the licenses was not acted upon by Congress. Get the Story:
