Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians is hiring for the Youth Cultural Academic Coordinator position.

This position is a Full-time position. Candidate is expected to generate Luiseño cultural lessons that are aligned with the current school curriculum. Responsible for creating a culturally appropriate program for school-aged children. Candidate is expected to collaborate with school staff, Pechanga Cultural Resources Department staff including, the Archivist and the Curator, and Tribal TANF department staff, for developing and implementing cultural activities that promote the educational goals for tribal youth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (include, but not limited to the following)
• Developing activities and working with existing staff and programs that promote knowledge, pride and respect for Luiseño/Pechanga culture and traditions.
• Assist teaching the aspects of Luiseño culture which include but are not limited to: native plants and usage, pottery, subsistence, demographics, traditional foods, seasons, traditional housing, local animals, oral tradition and place names.
• Working with tribal youth on culturally related projects.
• Using Luiseño language for when interacting with school-aged children.
• Demonstrate knowledge of tribal history and cultural practices by applying them to the program materials and lessons.
• Assist Cultural and other Departmental staff with the development of hands-on cultural activities for the students.
• Develop cultural lesson plans and study material for all grade levels, in collaboration with Pechanga School faculty.
• Develop a reading list of cultural and historical related books for the teachers to review and incorporate into their lessons.
• Coordinate outreach activities between Cultural Resources Department, Pechanga School, Pechanga TANF, and community schools.
• Work with other TANF youth programs that promote pride in tribal history and culture.
• Ability to work special programs and events on occasion after normal working hours and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
• Valid California teaching credential preferred.
• Preferred 1-5 years teaching experience.
• Basic knowledge of Luiseño culture, history and tradition.
• Experience with native cultures and Luiseño language preferred.
• Must have experience managing multiple projects and ability to properly prioritize workload.
• Valid California Driver’s License, proof of insurance and personal vehicle to use for work.
• Certified in Child/Infant CPR.
• Compliance with Tribal Government Drug Free Workplace Policy.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher required.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills: tact, patience, flexibility, and ability to maintain professional demeanor at all times.
• Outgoing personality, excellent customer service skills and ability to motivate others.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions.
