Politician removes video that mentioned 'talking Eskimo'

A member of Canada's Parliament has removed an animated video in which a character is chastised for "talking Eskimo."

Saskatchewan MP David Anderson, who is the secretary for the Canadian Wheat Board, posted the video on his website. It depicted a conversation with a fictional wheat board executive and a wheat farmer.

"Slow down, young man. You are talking Eskimo," the executive tells the farmer. "You cannot do those things in Saskatchewan."

The video mentions "talking Eskimo" three times, CBC News reported. It was generated by an automated website -- meaning Anderson, or someone under his supervision, included that phrase in the script.

"The comment is offensive to Inuit, has no place in public discussion, and certainly no place on the website of an elected member of Parliament," National Inuit Leader Mary Simon said in a press release.
