Supporters of an amendment to allow gaming in Nebraska failed by one vote to break a filibuster.
Sen. DiAnna Schimek, a Democrat, needed 33 votes. She said the proposal is essentially dead this session.
Nebraska has four federally-recognized tribes but none are allowed to offer Class III gaming. The state has refused to negotiate a compact and is under court pressure to come to an agreement with the Santee Sioux Tribe.
