The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe of Oklahoma said on Wednesday they will settle a 27-million acre land claim for 500 acres and a casino in Colorado.
The tribes filed a petition with the Department of Interior to resolve the claim. Former Bureau of Indian Affairs official Michael Anderson is working for the tribes.
Class III gaming is legal in Colorado but Gov. Bill Owens (R) opposes any expansion of gaming. However, a spokesperson said he would consider a deal if the casino is located in a city with existing casinos.
Tribal ancestors lived in Colorado before being removed Oklahoma, where the tribes operate a casino.
