Wisconsin tribe can't find money to fulfill compact

The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe says its having trouble finding money to pay $40.5 million owed to the state under a gaming compact that was invalidated by the state Supreme Court.

The tribe says banks are wary of loaning money due to the court decision. "We want to make the payment," the tribe's attorney general told The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "We just don't know if we can get the financing and make the payment."

The tribe would owe $6.4 million under an old compact. But in exchange for more Class III games, the tribe agreed to share more with the state.
