Battle over future of California gaming cost $105M

Final campaign statements filed on Monday show that tribes, racetracks, card clubs and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) spent more than $107 million on two rival gaming initiatives.

Proposition 68, to allow slot machines at non-Indian card clubs, and Proposition 70, to expand on-reservation gaming, were defeated at the polls. Schwarzenegger campaigned heavily against them but only spent $4.6 million.

On the other hand, three southern California tribes -- the Agua Caliente Band, the Morongo Band and the San Manuel Band -- spent nearly $30 million during election season.
