Mall of America developer questions tribal casinos

A casino at the Mall of America won't be an expansion of Minnesota's gaming industry, developer Nader Ghermezian says.

Ghermezian told The Minneapolis Star Tribune that Minnesota "already is a gambling state" due to existing tribal casinos. But he said, "God knows where the money goes now," referring to tribal-state compacts that don't require revenue sharing.

Ghermezian told is proposing a $1 billion expansion of the mall that would include a casino larger than the nearest tribal casino. He said Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) "was noncommital" about the idea.
