A municipal services agreement for an off-reservation casino in Hesperia, California, will remain valid under an out-of-court settlement.
The city signed the agreement with the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe. A majority of city residents supported the casino in a referendum.
The tribe's reservation is located in Death Valley, about 150 miles away. An act of Congress prohibits the tribe from gaming on that land so the tribe is looking elsewhere for economic development.
