Jena Choctaw Band to sue for compact negotiations

The Jena Band of Choctaw Indians plans to sue the state of Louisiana to force the negotiation of a Class III gaming compact.

Class III gaming is legal in the state but Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) has refused to negotiate. She and other politicians say they won't want any more casinos.

The tribe had signed a compact with Blanco's predecessor but it was rejected by the Bureau of Indian Affairs due to a high revenue-sharing rate that was interpreted as a tax on Indian gaming.
