Tribal slot machine bill approved but faces veto

The Maine Legislature gave final approval on Friday to a bill to allow the Passamaquoddy Tribe to open a race track with slot machines.

The vote in the Senate was 19-15, less than the two-thirds majority needed to break the expected veto from Gov. John Baldacci (D). Prospects to override the veto look better in the House.

The tribe wants to meet with Baldacci before he announces his decision.
